Tree Surgery
The heart of what Lewis does. Whether a tree has grown too big for its space, is throwing too much shade, or has dead and dangerous limbs, he works it properly — crown reduction to bring the size back in balance, crown lifting to raise the canopy clear of the house or drive, and dead-wooding to take out the dead and diseased growth. Done well, it isn't obvious: one client only realised how good her crown reduction was months later, “when Spring arrived and the tree filled out into a beautifully balanced shape.”

Controlled Felling & Dismantling
When a tree has to come down, it's about control. In an open field a tree can be felled in one; in a tight garden or near a house it's climbed and dismantled piece by piece, rigged down so nothing lands where it shouldn't. Lewis handles anything from a single tree to clearing a whole woodland, and the wood is logged or chipped and cleared as part of the job. As one client put it after three trees came out: “fantastic job, neat and tidy.”

Hedge Cutting & Topping
Overgrown hedges reshaped and brought back under control — trimmed to a clean line, topped to bring the height down, or cut hard back to reclaim a boundary that's got away over the years. Whether it's a garden hedge or a long run down a boundary, it's cut to the height and shape you want and all the clippings are cleared, so you're left with a crisp edge and a tidy garden rather than a job half done.

Patios, paths, decking and driveways can go green and grubby quickly under Surrey trees. A proper jet wash lifts off the dirt, moss and algae and brings the surface back to something close to new — a quick, satisfying job that often makes more difference to how a garden looks than anything else, and an easy add-on to hedge or maintenance work.

Site Clearance & Log Removal
The bit that's often skipped elsewhere but never here. Whatever the job, the clear-up is part of it: brash chipped, timber logged and stacked or taken away, the ground raked over and the site left tidy. If you'd like the wood kept for the burner, it's stacked for you; if not, it's gone. It's why the words that come up again and again in the reviews are “neat and tidy.”

How do I get a quote, and does it cost anything?
Quotes are free and there's no obligation. The quickest way is to call Lewis or WhatsApp a photo of the tree, hedge or garden — often that's enough to talk through the job. For anything bigger he'll come out, take a proper look and give you a clear price with no pressure to go ahead.
What's the difference between a crown reduction and a crown lift?
A crown reduction takes the overall size of the canopy back evenly, so a tree that's grown too big for its space is brought back into balance while keeping its natural shape. A crown lift raises the bottom of the canopy — removing the lower branches — to give clearance over a driveway, path, lawn or building. Many trees benefit from a bit of both, and Lewis will tell you which the tree actually needs.
Do you take the wood and mess away, or is that extra?
The clear-up is part of the job. Brash is chipped, timber is logged and stacked or taken away, and the site is raked over and left tidy — that's why “neat and tidy” comes up so often in the reviews. If you'd like the logs kept for a wood burner, just say and they'll be stacked for you.
Can you take down a big tree that's close to my house?
Yes. Where there isn't room to fell a tree in one, it's climbed and dismantled in sections and rigged down carefully, so nothing lands where it shouldn't. Lewis handles everything from a single garden tree in a tight spot up to clearing whole woodland, always worked to keep the tree, your property and everyone on site safe.
Do you do gardening as well as tree work?
Both. As well as the tree surgery — reductions, lifts, dead-wooding and felling — Green Tree covers hedge cutting and topping, grass cutting, weeding, general garden maintenance, soft and hard landscaping and jet washing. It's common to book tree work and have the hedges and garden tidied up in the same visit.
When is the best time of year to have tree work done?
It depends on the tree. A lot of pruning and reduction work is best done in the dormant season, late autumn through winter, when the tree isn't in leaf and it's easier to see and shape the structure — though dead, damaged or dangerous wood can be dealt with at any time of year. Some species have their own preferred windows; Lewis will advise on the right timing for yours.
